The race was held in the pleasant surroundings of Ickworth Park
The course was less than flat and started on an upward slope. Three laps was the order of the day. With near on 70 riders on the start line it was going to be busy once the race had started. The whistle blew and racers were off and peddling, a bunch of rides showed there intent right from the gun. In the bunch was Josun Cole (J) with Alex Dale making Felix Mackie, William Davies along with Harrison (H) making a very quick start.
Lap 2 J and Harrison were locked into tight battle with Harrison inches from the wheel, as they hit the bomb hole Harrison lost his chain and was caught by Felix at the bottom of the hole H jumped off his bike got the chain back on and ran a little. At this point it looked as if the race was over but a very thoughtful J eased up to allow H back into the race. H was four seconds back on the J but by the top of the climb he had made that time up.
On the final sprint into the finish line I don’t think either lad had any more speed J held his position to win. The computer picked up H before J it was that close. When Matt called H up for 1st prize we were all miffed as J had bagged the win for sure. This was cleared up and amended as a computer error. Both boys swapped medals and prizes.
Thanks to the team at MSG as they made a fantastic course and we are looking forward to future rounds.
